The guitar that Jason had to wait on and instead help craft Skeletor. The latter was Team Rgo's vendetta against teen ambition. Ha rejected the warlock shape for a team guitar, Jason won 33 percent of the vote anyway. Ha's 50 percent, minus 33 percent on rainbow, white, plain sanded, house paint all mixed into black, minus 66 percent repeats of 'Absolutely not' on the Crayola Stix Guitar (for children of Apple Computers with teachers from NSA), equals... sigh. Or did she?
Why the warlock shape? Because a Metal guitar adheres closer to the viol family's proportions, the distance from the bottom below the bridge to the bridge assembly is nearly the same ratio for the amount of hardware before the strings are as tuned (strings are intoned). Unlike other electric guitar body styles, the transition to electric intoning also carried over the Spanish guitar's soundbox and open sound hole much higher up from the bridge near the neck, lengthening the distance from the bottom of the guitar to the bridge. That significant cutout at the bottom of the warlock was where makers like Gretsch used cruder designs, such as their Bigsby tremelo system with the wrap-around hinge tailpiece. After Rgo, the warlock shape has preferential validation as a needed adjustment throwback to proper stick ratios of classical models but with inverse curved and angular cutins.
Consider the difference between the two styles, the bottom edge by extension of the guitar to the bridge. On the left, Jason's 1993+ Rainbow Bridge Curable has a more classical proportion for playing, compared to the guitar on the right: Fender's 2016 Offset Telecaster (at Reverb, 2026 Jan 09). Plus with or without tremolo bar, some players have abandoned Hard Rock guitaring on the old Fender's shape only to keep all the acoutrements they are used to. What is bottom? Here, the bottom is not considered the outer weight-bearing pedastal parts on display equal in height, it is the amount of wood in length at the center up the guitar to the bridge. A modern compromise from a different paradigm: the jigsaw puzzle or the rain puddle with no care for edge binding. The tailor or the sculptor.
Rgo is almost certain Rainbow Bridge is not the Captain's Defense guitar (codename XZ?). They discussed both, Jason seperated the two. The one you see in the photograph (a) should not have a brass rod pushed down from the head into the neck. Also relegated to Captain's Defense are the perfectly shaped (b) bullet ferrules in the holes in the back of the guitar for stringing from behind, vigilante payback for the hole below the bridge (left-handed plug-in socket position) on Ha's Fender. You know, such trophies Rainbow Bridge would not have. The Captain's guitar would lead to (c) hiring a spray paint artist, preferrably Bansky or a better graffiti artist in DC, to collaborate on the paintjob. Rgo did not hand over to Jason options for (d) expensive textures and woods.
Jason got all those inlays he wanted with slotted edging instead of binding, all-around inlays the opposite of fret markers. It would be reminiscent of going fishing out on the wooden deck dock, feasting on shellfish. Ha described the familiar culture to him, and those were the aspects he preferred, not another “Go fetch the M.I.A. government for us”. In that scenario, he wanted to be retired to go create guitars, to boost the price of later kicking him out of retirement. As for the paint, he told Ha that he got help on mixing housepaint together, because he was stuck at purple and brown. There was a trick to getting the gloppy paint to turn black and have the protective finish mixed-in instead of using a clear coat second layer, trickles of oil stains or something, Ha does not remember.
He had three options to pursue. The first was Rainbow Bridge, to commit himself to what he started when he came back from a Guitar Battle concert. The second was Captain's Defense, to finish the side pile that he was accumulating as a luthier. The third was codenamed Greek Column guitar, to listen as a teacher and discern feasible or not within budget and organizational workflow. He definitely wanted to drop out of yet another M.B.A. course, as if saying, Give me a quiz I am sure to fail. He scored high in listening, average in puzzles, nearly perfect in syllogism. What do you mean a temple made of paper and a boat made of brick? Ha told him it was Pomo not artistic. Hence the economic problem of the modern machine shop and the return of construction. That trend was not a puzzle to him. Ha gave him a demerit upon his first thirty minutes as a teacher.
